The National Age Friendly Movement

The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities is the U.S. affiliate of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, a worldwide effort to help communities become more supportive and livable for people of all ages, especially older adults. AARP provides resources and support to help cities, towns, and states implement strategies and policies that foster inclusion, health, and economic growth, based on the WHO’s eight domains for age-friendly communities:

• Outdoor spaces and buildings

• Housing

• Transportation

• Social participation

• Civic participation and employment

• Respect and social inclusion

• Communication and information

• Community and health services
